PPS:The Prospective Payment System (PPS) significantly impacts the reimbursement process for nursing facilities. These changes affect the reimbursement for ancillary services such as pharmacy as well. Along with the changes come challenges and opportunities to provide optimum resident care in a cost-effective manner. Our Pharmacy Services Division is committed to support facilities in those efforts. The Neil Medical Group PPS "Drug Tip", Drug Therapy Intervention Plan is a major component of our effort to reduce medication related costs while maintaining safe and effective medication utilization. The emphasis of the plan is twofold. First, our consultant pharmacists will provide a preview of anticipated drug costs prior to admission. Then we will work closely with facility staff for opportunities to recommend cost-saving alternative drug therapies. These steps may result in very substantial savings for the facility without compromising resident care.
With our medical formulary support and our managed care initiatives, we welcome the opportunity to identify ways to reduce medication-related costs. Comprehensive Consultant Pharmacist Services Our experienced consultants regularly provide educational and informational in-services to the facility staff, patients and family members. They also work closely with the nursing staff to develop policies and procedures on all aspects of acquisition, disposition, handling, storage and administration of medications in the facility. We also work with you regarding drug interactions, side effects, and inappropriate medication use. Our pharmacists actively participate on committees such as Psychoactive Review, Infection Control and Pharmaceutical Services Review. They also perform monthly med-pass monitoring.
